Just a few days after he became the top scorer in European Championship history, Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo has tied the international goal scoring record with Iran’s legendary player Ali Daei.
In last night’s game with France, Ronaldo scored his 108th and 109th goal for Portugal. It took him 178 games to accomplish this amazing milestone. Ali’s record number of goals were accomplished mostly in Asian leagues, making Ronaldo record even more so impressive, considering the overall strength of European teams.
Let’s not disregard Ali Daei record just yet. His 109 goals have been achieved in 149 games, compared to Cristiano’s 178. Nicknamed the “Shariar” (meaning “King” in Persian), Ali is still a living legend of Asian football.
The first player not only to play in – but also to score in five European Championship tournaments, Ronaldo is truly one of a kind. In the same Euro 2020 tournament, he broke the record as the highest euro cop scorer – blowing all other players out of the water.
